Here is my latest up-cylced Cigar box turned Valentine Treasure Box. I simply used an old Christmas Stocking to cover the box.
Start with cigar box.
I am using an old Christmas Stocking that is cut and glued to the sides of the cigar box. It has the perfect colors I wanted for that perfect Valentine look.
Start by cutting the stocking in half, then cut the white part off from the red part of the stocking and set aside. You will use the red part of the stocking for the sides of the box, and the white part of the stocking for the top of the cigar box.
Measure the sides of your box and transfer those measurements onto the backside of the red part of the stocking. I just used a ruler and marking pen.
Now that you have your measurements for the sides of the box, go ahead and cut them from the red part of the stocking.
With your hot glue gun, glue red material to each side of the box.
From the white part of the Christmas stocking measure the top and cut to match the top of the cigar box. Glue down with hot glue.
I added some pretty white lace around the inside top of box.
To finish off my cigar box, I embellished it with red acrylic crystals and a homemade valentine heart. You can get the crystals at your local craft store. I was able to pick them up on sale for $1.00 a bag. I grabbed a bunch.
The valentine heart is made with a transparency, tissue paper and tulip paint and done with a reverse painting technique. I will post this technique in a later post.
I added the acrylic crystals along the sides of the box also.
